Women Knitters of Chaukori

We’re partnering with Himalayan Naari, a women’s self-help collective, to breathe new life into the traditional woolen crafts of northern India. Our aim is to bring these time-honored techniques, like hand knitting and natural dyeing, into the global spotlight through design collaborations, marketing, and international sales.

Himalayan Naari, a non-profit and fair-trade organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of around 50 artisan women. As the founder of TerraKlay, I’m honored to serve as an advisor to the collective and to sit on the board of the Himalayan Education Foundation, working together to preserve these beautiful traditions while creating new opportunities for the artisans.

We’ve recently launched an exciting new initiative in natural dyeing in the Himalayan region. Committed to sustainability, Himalayan Naari has introduced a naturally dyed wool collection. For generations, indigenous people in the Himalayan mountains have used local plants and flowers to create vibrant, beautiful colors. Now, Naari’s dyers and artisans are reviving this lost art, organically dyeing wool in magnificent and elegant hues.
