We at Terra Klay will donate 100% of our profits from the sale of our gift boxes to Borderless World Foundation, (BWF) an organization that helps educate and house abandoned girls from the valley in Kashmir, India.
“The armed insurgency that broke out in 1989 has had a devastating effect on the normal life of people living in Kashmir. The number of orphans in Kashmir mushroomed dramatically . . . tens of thousands of people have been killed, and an estimated 10,000 disappeared during the past 25 years of the armed rebellion. . . .”
–from BWF’s IDS grant application
There are about 200,000 orphans in Jammu and Kashmir living without many of the things we take for granted – security, education, medical services, electricity, and internet access
These children are discriminated against and vulnerable to abuse. Many of them have lost their fathers to militant activities. Their mothers have rejected them. Abandoned by their parents, they are left unprotected in an unstable and fractious society.
In such situation in rural India, girls are particularly at risk of being scarred physically and psychologically. BWF provides these children with safe shelter and rehabilitation. It is the first and only organization in the region serving these children.
How Will Your Money Get to The Children Who Need It?
Borderless World Foundation proposes to offer IT training to orphans and underprivileged girls at the Computer Literacy Center in the Basera-e-Tabassum (“Abode of Smiles”) Foster Care Home. The training is designed to help these children become self-reliant and to increase their access to job opportunities.
They are supported by India Development Service (IDS). To give to BWF, Terra Klay will partner with IDS, a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting economic and social development in India. As of mid-2018, IDS has helped fund over 240 projects in more than 25 states benefiting over 260,000 people.
Your purchase will give back to one of the world’s most pressing social, economic and environmental challenges without spending anything extra. We will take care of that for you!
From all of us here at Terra Klay - our local and Indian artisans included - we thank you for being a part of this global effort to protect and educate our girls.
