Every August, Shoppe Object fills the Starrett-Lehigh Building in New York with the people who make things for the home. This year The Kitchn's editors walked the whole show and came back with ten "Best in Show" picks — and our 17-inch Wave bowl was one of them. Their words: "this stunning, hand-crafted wood bowl by TerraKlay."
What they were looking at: a salad bowl carved by hand, with chisels, from a single block of Higuerilla hardwood by Yanesha artisans in the Peruvian Amazon, working with PaTS (Partners in Amazonian Tree Stewardship). No lathe, no glued staves — one piece of wood, a fluid wave-shaped rim, and a finish that's food-safe from the first use. It serves salad for 10–12 and then sits on the table as the centerpiece.
The Wave comes in two sizes — the 17-inch that won and its big sibling, the 20-inch. Both are one-of-a-kind by nature: no two blocks of wood carve the same.
